Cambridge Early Years Teaching School
The six Nursery Schools in Cambridgeshire have a long history of collaboration. Going back in time, the schools were loosely known as ‘The Nursery School Circle’. Our aim was to provide support to each other and to collaborate for the common purpose of ensuring high quality early years provision in Cambridgeshire.
Our schools have always been committed to providing professional development opportunities both for our own staff but also for the wider early years sector in Cambridgeshire. This commitment led to exciting collaborative projects in Mathematics, Early years Information Technology and Forest School. We worked with the Local Authority Early Years’ service and the majority of our schools became Sure Start Children’s Centres. In addition, we also offered Teacher Training placements in collaboration with Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin Universities.
The teaching school initiative offered an excellent opportunity for the schools to come together formally. So in 2012 the first formal discussions happened, and in 2013 the Nursery School Circle became the Cambridge Early Years Teaching School (CEYTS). We were the first teaching school to focus on the early years/foundation stage in the country. At our core is the belief that all children have the right to learn through play. We believe that parents are their children’s first educators and we believe that collaboration through partnerships gives practitioners access to high quality training. Ensuring that children are provided with the best play and learning opportunities. Our values as a teaching school are based on these principles.
